Job Description:
- POSITION SUMMARY
- The Unit Educator demonstrates knowledge and competence in a
specialty area, through the provision of education and support, to
guide quality patient care and increase staff competence.
- The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 28-bed unit with
and average census of 24-25. The unit employees about 90 employees
and the typical patient population is newborn preterm infants and
newborns that are critically ill. The unit uses 12 hour
shifts.
- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Education and Practice
- Provide just-in-time education to staff related to patient
care, new equipment, new policies & procedures.
- Support staff through routine rounds and communication.
- Provides skillful guidance and teaching to promote
evidence-based care of patients, families, groups of patients.
- Meet with new nursing staff and oversee orientation, meeting
regularly with new staff member & preceptor.
- Collaborate with a member of Clinical Education & Professional
Development in the development of orientation tools and
competencies.
- Collaborate with a member of Clinical Education & Professional
Development in the development of needs assessments and
implementation of training.
- Participates in new product evaluation; recommends and
evaluates new products designed to improve patient outcomes.
- Maintains clinical competencies and ability to assume a patient
care assignment.
- Leadership
- Uses effective communication skills, supporting departmental
and organizational goals and influencing change processes.
- Facilitates team building and problem solving when identified
changes are needed.
- Demonstrates leadership on a professional level, maintaining
appropriate competencies and involvement in activities internal and
external to the organization.
- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Ability to work independently and take initiative; good
judgment and problem solving skills
- Ability to apply principles of adult learning
- Ability to search for, interpret, and utilize evidence
- Model skilled communication, true collaboration, effective
decision-making, meaningful recognition, and authentic leadership,

- EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Master's
degree in nursing with a focus on education preferred.
- Experience: Four years clinical experience with a specialty
focus required; teaching experience preferred.
- Certification/Licensure: Current license in the State of New
Hampshire as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in area of
specialty required within 18 months of obtaining position.
- Software/Hardware: Experience in Microsoft Office required.
Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred.KER
