Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist is responsible for
leading, facilitating, and promoting culture transformation with
the development of leaders, management system implementation, and
improvement projects across Elliot Health System using improvement
science and lean methods. The incumbent will coach, teach, mentor,
and inspire operational excellence.
This includes working with and coaching front-line teams and area
leaders using a data-driven, scientific problem-solving approach
and teaching continuous improvement methods by delivering
curriculum designed to foster a culture of improvement.
The CI Specialist coaches and works with area leaders and teams to
identify areas of quality improvement, high reliability, and to
sustain improvements by leveraging daily management systems
approach.
The CI Specialist also works with teams to develop key performance
indicators to monitor processes and outcomes.
The CI Specialist also assists in applying change management
techniques for successful and sustainable improvement that
capitalizes on reflection and learning; and promotes a culture of
continuous improvement across the organization by espousing and
enacting continuous improvement and respect for people philosophy
and principles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and facilitate improvement projects/initiatives within the
organization to improve and redesign and optimize processes which
are critical to quality and patient care.
Engage front-line staff in using lean principles and tools to
eliminate waste, improve flow, and create value for patients and
internal customers.
Collaborates with various members of the organization to collate a
team of the "right" people for successful end to end project
implementation.
Utilize a data-driven approach including development of key
performance indicators, data collection, monitoring and
analysis.
Conduct and facilitate effective A3 problem solving discussions for
local challenges and quality improvement.
Deliver verbal and written presentations and project status updates
to large and small audiences as needed including the use of visual
management tools.
Facilitate education of area leaders and teams on improvement
science, methodology, and concepts.
Proficient in the knowledge and use of change management
techniques. Manage team dynamics, organizational dynamics and
encourage creative thinking for successful outcomes.
Drive the continuous improvement and respect for people culture
within the organization through leading by example. Develop people
through education and coaching on continuous improvement methods
and scientific problem solving.
Lead lean management system development across the enterprise.
Coach and teach teams on maturing, evolving, reflecting, and
sustaining their management system as well as leveraging it for
further improvement and alignment with the overall Quality
Management System.
Facilitate strategy deployment sessions with departments.
Utilize design thinking and product strategy principles to drive
innovation in care delivery.
Anticipate and address any inequity impacts of continuous
improvement activities.
Ensure improvement work is consistent with and supportive of Elliot
Health System's mission, vision, strategic plans, and culture.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Knowledge of various improvement methodologies with demonstrated
experience in application of continuous improvement skills for
project implementation and sustainability.
Knowledge of various improvement methodologies, with the ability to
use a specific methodology end-to-end.
Knowledge of continuous improvement principles and concepts.
Knowledge of design thinking, and product strategy concepts
preferred.
Familiarity with strategy deployment optimal, along with
familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 in health care and high reliability
frameworks preferred.
Proven team facilitation experience.
Strong analysis skills for collection, root cause and tracking
purposes.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Ability to perform data analysis to define the problem and data as
well as better understand root causes for problems to create
measurable and effective solutions.
Ability to work independently and take initiative.
Ability to collaborate with area leaders for the iterative planning
and implementation of projects.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
Education: BA/BS in Healthcare, Statistics, Informatics, Business,
Engineering or other related field required.
Experience: A minimum of three-five (3-5) years of Continuous
Improvement experience is required. An additional one-three years
of additional experience in a healthcare field preferred.
Certification/Licensure: Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt Certification or
other advanced training and certification required. Project
Management certification is advantageous.
Software/Hardware: Advanced skills in Microsoft product suite,
including Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Visio. Epic EMR, Smartsheet,
Tableau, Minitab and simulation software experience
preferred.
