POSITION SUMMARY The practice of mammography is performed by a segment of health care professionals responsible for the administration of ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. Independently performs screening and diagnostic mammography exams based on institutional policies and/or practice standards and/or follows the directive of the interpreting physician to assist in the completion of the mammography exam. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Performs mammography procedures based on the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) #Mammography Practice Standards# and the ASRT #Code of Ethics# Understands and adheres to departmental exam protocols Actively participates in quality control and quality assurance activities using the #APIE# model. Completes annual mandatory education on time. Performs screening and diagnostic mammography exams based on institutional policies and/or practice standards and/or follows the directive of the interpreting physician to assist in the completion of the mammography exam. Integrates scientific knowledge, technical skills, patient interaction, and care to obtain viable diagnostic information. Recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure and exercises independent, professional, and ethical judgment at all times. Performs all duties in a manner that promotes teamwork and reflects the Mission, Philosophy and Code of Conduct of Elliot Health System. Independently performs screening and diagnostic mammography exams based on institutional policies and/or practice standards and follows the directive of the interpreting physician to assist in the completion of the exam. Maintains a high degree of accuracy in breast positioning, exposure techniques, and subsequent evaluation of imaging parameters to optimize patient imagin and care while adhearing to radiation protection and safety standards. Assists the interpreting physician as directed when involved with diagnostic procedures in breast imaging. Serve as the primary liason between patients, licensed independent practitioners, and other members of the support team. Recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure and exercises independent, professional, and ethical judgment at all times. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE # SKILLS Understands and adheres to departmental exam protocols. Demonstrate an understanding of breast anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Ability to remain sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, patient assessment, patient monitoring and patient care skills. Ability to us independent professional, ethical judgment and critical thinking. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE Education: Successful completion of an accredited radiological Technologist program required. Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a radiologic technologist preferred. Certification/Licensure:#Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Required.#Certified by ARRT in Mammography required.
