You'll do more, learn more, and can make a profound impact on our business. The position reports to the Director of Software Engineering within the R&D/Product Development organization. The ideal candidate is a technical leader and problem solver who has practical experience in software architecture, design and development of user interfaces, business logic, databases and control of electromechanical systems. This candidate will possess strong communications skills and have managed small teams while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams of engineers and scientists to launch products. Project leadership experience is a must, as is experience working with third-party product development efforts. Familiarity with machine vision systems or image analysis software is highly beneficial. All candidates must demonstrate software design and development experience in three or more of the following:

  • Microsoft Technology Stacks
  • Linux solutions
  • AWS administration
  • Motion Control Systems
  • State Machine design and implementation
  • Multi-process, multi-threaded design patterns
  • CI/CD development practices
  • Experience with embedded control
  • User Interface DevelopmentDuties and responsibilities:
    • Manager and player/coach of a small team of software engineers
    • Development of software/firmware for machine control, including updates to our existing Growth Direct system and new instrument development - from low-level component and device control to customer facing GUI screens and menus
    • Hardware interface development: barcode reader, A/D, etc.
    • Develop and maintain software requirements
    • Design and develop system control software including user interface, database management, scheduling and machine control
    • Develop design modifications to address field concerns, reduce system costs, and improve system performance
    • Develop, evaluate, and improve subsystem or component designs under formal design control procedures - familiarity with Agile and Waterfall development processes is highly desired as is use of Azure DevOps
    • Troubleshoot system performance problems - potentially remotely at customer sites - in order to identify root cause and develop corrections
    • Work collaboratively and efficiently with internal and external engineering and scientific resources
    • Independently analyze data and write up results as appropriate
    • Give oral and written presentations of work to co-workers and managementQualifications:
      • BS degree in SW Development or SW Engineering, or a degree in physics, electrical engineering or mathematics with extensive SW development experience
      • MS focused on SW development preferred
      • 10+ years' experience in software/systems development with 3 in management roles.
      • Proficiency in two or more of the following languages and technologies:
      • C++
      • C#
      • ADO
      • ADO.net
      • COM
      • .NET 1.0 - 4.5Working Conditions:
        • Primarily in an office setting with occasional integration in labs and manufacturing.
