POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direction and clinical leadership in the daily operation of nursing services provided by Department of Cardiovascular Wellness; also functions as staff nurse. Ensures the delivery of efficient and cost efficient quality care for all patients by creating a work atmosphere conducive to professional growth, accountability and autonomy. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Manager and within established policies and procedures the incumbent performs the following functions: Essential Functions: --- Provides clinical and technical leadership to supervise, direct, schedule and assign the work of the clinical staff. Serves as a role model to staff. --- Functions as staff nurse, as outlined in the cardiac rehabilitation nurse specialist job description, approximately 70% of time. --- Assesses clinical competency of clinical staff members relative to patient acuity and case complexity. Provides staff with guidance, policies, procedures, and opportunities for education and development. --- Outlines the scope of authority as well as job responsibilities of employees under supervision. Provides leadership and direction to the clinical staff. Fosters professional growth. Evaluates clinical performance based on individual and department goals and objectives. --- Ensures staff function in accordance with The Joint Commission, AACVPR and other applicable standards of care. Provides leadership for ongoing development and administration of standards of care, practice, policy and protocol. Complies with, enforces and evaluates established company and departmental policies and procedures. --- Interviews and recommends selection of candidates for employment. Recommends personnel actions, including but not limited to, hiring, transferring, suspending, counseling, disciplining, discharging, assigning, rewarding or adjusting grievances involving personnel. Prepares and conducts formal/informal performance evaluations and recommends appropriate merit increases or work improvement plans if necessary. --- Facilitates the development and implementation of meaningful quality assurance monitoring and performance improvement plans. Researches techniques and technology for increasing efficiency, quality and cost of effectiveness of services. --- Participates in strategic planning, establishes departmental goals, develops new service plans and makes recommendations in budget preparations for improvements in cardiovascular wellness services. --- Develops and maintains competency based orientation plan for new clinical staff. Directs the orientation and training of new clinical staff as required. --- Maintains inventory and equipment for the cardiovascular wellness service. Rotates stock to eliminate outdated items. Evaluates new and existing equipment for performance, cost effectiveness and the ability to provide state of the art services. --- Maintains current patient education materials. --- Develops with staff involvement, all program policies and procedures, standards of care/practice, pre-printed forms and administrative forms for the Department of Cardiovascular Wellness. Reviews and revises policies and procedures as required. --- Ensures educational needs of patients, families and significant others are met. --- Conducts staff meetings to discuss problems, needs, concerns and interventions as they pertain to departmental functions. --- Provides direction for the ongoing development and implementation of cardiovascular wellness services. --- Participates in ongoing evaluation and analysis of patient, physician and employee satisfaction. --- Creates an atmosphere of open, responsive communication among clinical staff, support services, healthcare providers, and others. Fosters a positive image of the unit. Encourages effective internal and external working relationships. Maintains open communication. --- Ensures confidentiality of patients, employees, legal, budget, company and departmental matters.Qualifications

  • QUALIFICATIONS: Education: --- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent. Experience: --- At least five (5) years progressive, relevant professional experience with at least three (3) years in management/supervisory positions. Licensure/Certification: --- Valid RN license in the State of New Hampshire
