*Education:* Associates Degree required; Bachelor of Science Degree
preferred.Experience:* Preferred 5-7 years' clinical experience in
adult cardiac sonography.Licensure/Certification:* Registered in
Adult Cardiac Sonography by the American Registry of Diagnostic
Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing
International (CCI).* Advanced Cardiac Sonographer (ACS) preferred*
Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification required.* Advanced
Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.*
Current driver's license required due to travel required to
satellite offices 20%.* Currently registered with New Hampshire
Board of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy.*POSITION SUMMARY:
*The lead cardiac sonographer serves as the liaison between
management, staff and physicians for routine matters. In
collaboration with the Clinical Manager, is responsible for
overseeing the functioning of the echocardiography department.
Provide an advanced level of quality echocardiography services and
support to both sonographers and physicians.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES:Under the direct supervision of the Manager,
Non-Invasive Cardiology and within established departmental
policies and procedures and all applicable laws, the incumbent
performs the following functions:1. Performs a range of standard to
complex echocardiograms including but not limited to TTE, Stress
and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms, TTE with bubbles, TTE with
imaging enhancement agents, advanced TTE with strain/3D imaging,
TEE with 3D imaging, advanced TEE skills with structural heart
procedures (TAVR, Watchman, Mitra Clip, PFO/ASD closure).2.
Promotes a positive work environment and leads the lab to be a
dynamic, team focused work unit that actively helps one another to
achieve optimal department results.3. Collaborates with all members
of the patient care team by actively communicating and reporting
pertinent patient care information and data in a comprehensive
manner.4. Oversees Quality Assurance testing in compliance with lab
accreditation and daily operations.5. Precepts and mentors both new
hires and staffed sonographers, helping to expand their knowledge
and clinical competence in cardiac ultrasound exams, operations and
processes.6. Serves as liaison between team members, management and
physicians, resolving routine matters for the shift/modality.7.
Provides education, training and support to sonographers in the
utilization of new equipment features/benefits and scanning
techniques.8. In the absence of the Clinical Manager, the Lead
Sonographer will assume the supervisory role and make decisions
that will impact patient care and departmental operations to insure
continuity of patient care.9. Maintain laboratory staff
competencies and evaluate staff performance for quality
assurance.10. Assist with the professional development of
sonographers by fostering a positive and constructive teaching
environment. Provides performance feedback directly with the staff
member, fostering a positive work environment, and a culture of
continuous learning and quality improvement.11. Assists in
generating and maintaining a staffing schedule that is impartial
and effective.12. Support the interpreting physician by
contributing technical impressions and professional knowledge to
facilitate the completion of the final diagnostic report.13.
Provide assistance and support to both physicians and contracted
satellite offices.14. Provide feedback to management on team member
performance and conduct.15. Provide general supervision and
evaluation of the sonographer staff.16. Ensure staff compliance
with clinical and operational protocols, policies, and
procedures.17. Provide input for the performance assessment of
staff sonographers.18. Assist the clinical manager with the
orientation and training of new staff.19. Assist with the direction
and guidance for departmental workflow.20. Assists department
manager with the budget process. Makes recommendations regarding
acquisition and implementation of new equipment, and upgrades of
current equipment.21. Works collaboratively with the department
manager in the planning and implementing of operations and
performance improvement initiatives for the laboratory.22. Assists
in trouble shooting operational issues that may arise, following
the proper chain of command to resolve issues/concerns.
Recommending and/or working with the leadership team to help
implement resolutions and implement long term improvements.23.
Addresses patient and staff safety concerns promptly with the
department manager.24. Assist in the annual performance evaluation
process of cardiac sonographers by providing
assessments/evaluations of the technical expertise of the
individual sonographer.25. Works with the department manager to
help assist in maintaining and applying for the laboratory
re-accreditation per ICAEL standards.26. Perform quality control
procedures to ensure that the ultrasound equipment operates at
optimal levels.27. Provide oversight for the staff continuing
education program to ensure that professional knowledge, expertise,
and skills are maintained.28. Demonstrates clinical expertise in
echocardiography, remaining current in echocardiography
technology.29. Assist in developing and evaluating new technical
procedures and products. Communicating the implementation of these
to the sonographers.30. Assist the department manager to ensure
that staff professional education requirements are met and
maintained, including applicable licensure, certification, and/or
accreditation standards.31. Assist with planning/competency
paperwork for new staff orientation and training.32. Assist with
developing new approaches for patient care services.33.

instructions to patients, physicians, treatment providers and other
employees accurately and/or loudly.5. Ability to exert up to 20 to
50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force
frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force
constantly to move objects. Strength Factor: M-Medium Work.6.
Visual acuity sufficient for work which deals largely with visual
inspection involving small anatomic or physiologic details as well
as the whole patient, and sufficient for preparing and analyzing
data and figures, transcription, computer terminal operation,
extensive reading.7. Ability to proceed alone following standard
practices for routine procedures, referring questions or problems
to supervisor.8. Ability to organize and prioritize patient needs.
Ability to demonstrate courtesy, compassion and respect in relating
to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.9.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication
and make fine discrimination in sound.10. Ability to organize time
and prioritize patient and physician needs to best benefit patient,
physician and department.11. Ability to utilize in-depth knowledge
of 2-D, M-mode, pulsed wave Doppler, continuous wave Doppler, color
flow mapping, trans esophageal, epicardial, epiaortic, and stress
echocardiography. Ability to learn and utilize 3D technology
appropriately in the clinical setting.12. Ability to perform
repetitive or routine duties working from detailed instructions and
under standard procedures. Requires the making of minor decisions
and ability to proceed alone following standard practices for
routine procedures. Questions or problems are referred to
manger.13. Demonstrates knowledge of test standards to provide
quality tests on assigned equipment.14. Ability to wear protective
clothing such as mask, gloves, gowns, head cover, lead apron,
safety glasses and/or safety shoes.15. Ability to accept
constructive feedback and initiate appropriate actions to correct
situations.16. Must possess knowledge of human cardiac anatomy,
physiology and acquired heart disease. Knowledge of congenital
