Job Description:
Position Description: Conducts investment research, using treasury, swap curve-based
analytics across government, credit, high-yield, inflation-linked,
MBS, ABS, CLOs, CMBS and CMOs security types, and derivatives --
futures, interest-rate swaps, CDX, FX forwards, and cross currency
basis swaps. Conducts quantitative analysis of Portfolio Managers
performance, risk, and holdings using quantitative analytical tools
-- Bloomberg, MPI Stylus, MSCI Barra, Morningstar Direct, POINT,
and ICE Mercury. Conducts sub-advised and SMA due diligence,
mandate creation, and ongoing monitoring. Identifies new analytical
techniques and process enhancements and leads research efforts
associated with new product development and launches. Primary Responsibilities: Evaluates, selects, and monitors a peer group of internal and
external funds, strategies, ETFs, and SMAs. Contributes to the peer group, investment style, and performs
asset class research support throughout the portfolio management
process. Performs and mentors junior team members in all aspects of
critical analysis to identify investment opportunities, conduct
rigorous study and research, identify key performance drivers, and
make appropriate fund and investment style recommendations to
Portfolio and Index Managers (PM and IM). Identifies investment strategies within a U.S. Fixed Income
universe across treasury and structured product markets and
corporate credit, and recommends the best PMs to execute selected
themes and disciplines Leads meetings with external PMs to discuss investment processes
and strategy objectives. Meeting regularly with external managers and key individuals at
the firm for performing due diligence and forming performance
expectations of strategies by performing qualitative assessments of
the philosophy, process, and resources being leveraged to drive
performance. Proactively communicates investment recommendations to PMs and
asset allocators through written research reports, group
presentations, and 1:1 meetings. Develops portfolio management tools for efficient portfolio
construction and exposure analysis factor-based risk and
attribution models, and holdings-based tools. Performs portfolio construction processes, using optimizing
techniques to maximize risk-adjusted returns, create
well-diversified exposures, and minimize unintended bets relative
to the benchmark. Monitors market environments and the impact of risk exposures in
holdings to ensure tracking error remains within acceptable
levels. Performs data-driven asset allocation research by examining
technical, fundamentals, valuation, and cross-correlation effects
to produce actionable recommendations for portfolios. Provides market intelligence on fixed income markets by
following the market cycle forecasting the impact of financial
conditions, economic conditions, and monetary and fiscal policy on
the fixed income capital market and portfolios. Education and Experience: Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Economics,
Business Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Information
Technology, or a closely related field and five (5) years of
experience in the job offered or five (5) years of experience
analyzing fixed income securities and performing fund research --
manager selection -- within a fixed income investment universe and
asset class environment. Or, alternatively, Masters degree in Economics, Business
Administration, Finance, Mathematics, Information Technology, or a
closely related field and three (3) years of in the job offered or
three (3) years of experience analyzing fixed income securities and
performing fund research -- manager selection -- within a fixed
income investment universe and asset class environment. Skills and Knowledge: Candidate must also possess: Demonstrated Expertise (DE) analyzing fixed income mutual funds,
ETFs, SMAs and sub-advised strategies -- interviewing fund
managers, evaluating portfolio strategies, investment teams,
philosophies, and thesis, and executing strategic objectives -- to
assess their investment processes. DE performing independent and detailed quantitative analysis of
fixed income strategies across sub-asset classes -- treasury,
credit, inflation-linked (TIPS), and structured products -- and non
agency and agency RMBS, CMOs, CMBS, ABS, and CLOs -- using
Bloomberg, MPI Stylus, MSCI Barra, Morningstar Direct, POINT, and
ICE Mercury. DE building tools for analyzing portfolio-level exposures,
holdings level analytics, what-if scenarios, performance
attribution, and risk management techniques to support portfolio
construction using complex financial instruments -- funding market
instruments, interest rate derivatives, swaptions, credit
derivatives, and securitized credit. DE delivering asset class research by incorporating advanced
analytics (option-adjusted spread, yield, duration measures, and
custom fixed income indices) while performing in-depth analysis of
esoteric subjects (cross-currency basis, FX hedging, reverse repo,
federal balance sheets, and market liquidity) to generate
