Openings: 1Post Date: May 8, 2025GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:Under the general direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor of Facilities Management, the Sr. Director of Strategic & Space Planning oversees strategic planning and development of UMass Chan's campus, campus planning, master planning, land use plans, site planning, mobility planning, and project-specific planning and programming. This role will ensure that campus development aligns with the institution's mission and long-term growth objectives. The Sr. Director manages and develops the staff of the Space Planning Department. The Sr. Director is responsible for managing the data related to all UMass Chan Medical School space assets (owned and leased) across all campus locations in the state. The Sr. Director serves as the key administrative contact with internal and external parties related to space management issues and prepares and presents space plans and options to senior UMass Chan Medical School leadership as requested.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with senior leadership, administration, steering committees, and other stakeholders to develop and implement comprehensive strategic and campus master plans aligned with the university's academic, research, and community objectives.
• Provide strategic direction and oversight for campus planning initiatives, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
• Utilize land use analyses to optimize campus space, considering zoning, environmental impacts, and community needs.
• Develop and oversee the UMass Chan Medical School space database, ensuring accurate and current information on space occupancy, room types, occupants, grants, utilization, and principal investigators across all locations.
• Participate in space utilization committees and strategic planning for facility requirements.
• Meet with staff and leadership to determine spatial needs and conduct planning workshops for efficient space scenarios.
• Maintain space inventory data for reporting and analysis, including federal reports and utilization studies.
• Prepare reports on space allocations, utilization, and departmental requests for senior administration.
• Oversee annual space audits to ensure effective use of space.
• Supervise Space Planning staff and perform audits to ensure data accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Develop policies and metrics for space management and conduct feasibility studies for campus planning.
• Develop project-specific scope and analyze fit scenarios.
• Review space requests against standards for efficiency.
• Coordinate architectural and space use changes post-project completion.
• Ensure as-builts meet standards for campus modeling.
• Implement departmental policies and perform additional duties as required.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, or equivalent experience
• 10 years of institutional planning experience
• Progressive management experience, including supervising staff and mid-level managers
• Experience in healthcare or medical school environments preferred
• Technical knowledge of space management and project planning
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Knowledge of research and teaching space requirements
