With _Gracious Professionalism _ our ideal candidate will lead a small team of professionals, ensuring that everyone is provided with growth and learning opportunities.This role has the ability to be a remote working arrangement for the right candidate. What You Will Do Support the Director, Finance and Accounting with general accounting operations including monitoring complex daily transactions, financial reporting, periodic reconciliation, external audit preparation, and the review and analysis of accounting transactions. Additionally, you will: Manage two direct reports offering technical guidance, mentoring, cross-training and professional development Oversee timely and accurate month end closings and reconciliations Conduct monthly reviews of financial statements including variance investigation, entry correction/adjustments, and data entry accuracy verification Provide financial analysis support and recommendations on cash/balances and interest, margin analysis, and restricted cash and operating reserves Continuously monitor, interpret, and analyze the impact of new ASC/GAAP rules; provide guidance and assistance with subsequent implementation Manage annual revenue reconciliation process ensuring proper revenue recording and source data reconciliation Ensure restricted/conditional/federal grants properly transacted, recorded, and in adherence with GAAP Maintain a thorough understanding of complex grant transactions, record periodic journal entries, and ensure consistent and appropriate recording of federal grants, _FIRST_'s storefront, and donor-imposed restrictions Act as a key contributor and facilitator to annual external audits (both Federal Grant and Financial Statement Audits) Support the organization's 990 tax filing Actively participate in cross functional collaboration, with accounting operations and planning/budget team, in support of department and organization goals and objectives Propose process changes to increase efficiency and strengthen internal controls Attend educational workshops, review professional publications, establish personal networks, and participate in professional societies to keep technical knowledge current What We Expect A technical accounting professional well versed with best practices for the full accounting cycle. We are also seeking candidates with the following knowledge, skills, and experience: BA/BS in related discipline and 6 years of experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience Advanced knowledge of current accounting standards (Accounting Codification and US GAAP) and through understanding of non-profit accounting Working knowledge of fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, deferred revenue, and other major balance line items Prior client-side audit experience or CPA auditor firm experience preferred Working knowledge of NetSuite or other ERP tools and integrated financial systems Flexibility to travel 5% depending on the time of year _FIRST_ Commitment to Safety Protecting our community from COVID-19 continues to be a priority.
