The Corporate EHS Director is responsible for monitoring safety and environmental compliance, promoting safe work practices, and decreasing the organization's environmental footprint.Essential Functions

  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulations to determine how or if they apply to HCA
  • With the assistant of site support staff at each HCA location: Direct all aspects of the Safety and Environmental program including (but not limited to): ensuring HCA complies with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations by enforcing policies and procedures, responding to safety and environmental inquiries, conducting period inspections to identify hazards in the workplace, and conducting risk and PPE assessments
  • Investigate accidents, identify root cause, produce, and implement corrective actions
  • Identify trends in workplace incidents. Implement corrective actions to decrease likelihood of injuries.
  • Assist Human Resources with workers compensation program, including managing claims to ensure employees are receiving proper medical treatment for the injury sustained and minimizing costs.
  • Manage, implement, and enforce safety and environmental written programs
  • Implement and manage the Environmental Management System for each HCA site that is certified to or compliant with ISO 14001:2015.
  • Manage environmental permits by conducting inspections, submitting reports, and ensuring compliance with all permit requirements.
  • Attend Safety and Environmental Management Committee meetings where feasible
  • Oversee Wastewater operations at HCA-IN by ensuring discharges meet permit requirements, preventative maintenance is performed as needed, and continuing education is performed for pretreatment operators
  • Communicate with federal, state, and local government representatives
  • Coordinate external safety and environmental inspections and audits
  • Communicate safety and environmental emergencies to Hitachi Metals Ltd.
  • Submit safety and environmental reports to Hitachi Metals Ltd.
  • Assist management with business risk insurance
  • Take accountability for the effectiveness of the EMS
  • Establish, implement, and maintain the environmental policy
  • Ensure resources are provided to support the EMS
  • Direct and support the overall effectiveness of the EMS
  • Assign and communicate responsibilities and authority for those who facilitate the EMS
  • Integrate the EMS into the organization's business processes and strategic plan
  • Ensure the EMS is aligned with business objectivesSupervisory Responsibility
    • This position has dotted line responsibility for the oversight and performance management of all divisional EHS employeesTravel Requirements
      • Regular travel required to HCA locations in Manchester, NH, Ashaway, RI, North Stonington, CT, and New Albany, IN
      • Quarterly travel required to location in Quer--taro, MexicoCore Competencies
        • Thorough understanding of EHS best practices as well as applicable policies and federal, state, and local laws and regulations
        • Strong leadership and team management skills
        • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing
        • Prioritizes and manages time efficiently
        • Analyzes information & reports results
        • Ability to make sound business decisions
        • Self-motivated and self-confidentPhysical Demands
          • Must be able to sit frequently and stand occasionally. Position involves walking, bending, stooping, pushing/pulling and reaching. Some lifting may be required up to 50 pounds.Safety Expectations
            • Obey all safety rules, use caution in work activities, and continuously practice safe behaviors
            • Immediately report unsafe conditions/behaviors and work-related injuries to site supervisionEducation and Experience
              • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or related field preferred
              • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Environmental/Safety management required
              • Experience in Environmental system audits required
