Description:CDM Smith, a multi-national, employee-owned engineering
design and consulting firm, is seeking a full time Geotechnical
Engineer Grade 4 to support various projects in the northeast
United States, primarily throughout New England and New York. At
CDM Smith you will have the opportunity to grow your career as part
of a team of technical experts working on challenging projects in
Environment, Industry, Commercial, Transportation, and Water.
Interested candidates can be based out of our offices in Boston,
MA, Chelmsford, MA, or Providence, RI. The position is open to a
hybrid work schedule allowing work from home several days per
week.The role of this position includes such tasks as:
- Provide full-service design and construction services on
geotechnical and geo-environmental projects including foundations,
pipelines, tunnels, dams and levees, slurry walls, sheet pile
walls, dredging, capping, solidification, lagoon closures,
landfills, and industrial waste impoundments.
- Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate field and laboratory
investigations for a wide range of project types.
- Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and evaluations.
- Prepare engineering reports and contract documents.
- Provide engineering services during construction.
- Prepare scope, schedules, and budgets for proposals.
- Work as an integrated member of a multi-discipline team on
complex civil works projects.
- Demonstrate good writing and communications skills and ability
to work with clients in the public and private sectors.
- Provide oversight, direction, and mentoring to junior

- Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Mining or Geologic
Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in
Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire
or promotion or transfer).
- 5 years of related experience.
- Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The
frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties,
responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position,
which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
- Equivalent additional directly related experience will be
considered in lieu of a degree.Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering with Geotechnical
Engineering emphasis is preferred.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state as
the candidates preferred base office location, or the ability to
become registered through reciprocity within 6 months.
- Experience in one or more of the following; subsurface
investigations in both soil and rock, underground projects
involving shafts, support of excavation design, horizontal
directional drilling projects, tunnel engineering design and
construction is a plus.
- Experience with specialized geotechnical engineering software
such as Open Ground Software, GeoStudio, PLAXIS, LPile, and gINT is
